Colour correcting and grading a clients wedding video is the final stage of the editing process. It’s where we can take a great wedding video and make it look even better. Colour correcting makes your footage look much more punchy, fresh and easy on the eye.  Exposure, saturation, midtones and highlights are adjusted to enhance the emotional effect of the wedding film. The best effects are subtle and often go unnoticed such as edge softening and vignettes which are added to bring the viewers eyes to specific details. This is one of the reasons we are different from the average wedding videographer.

Below is a split-screen example of the difference colour grading makes to a wedding video. Footage was shot on a Sony Z1 HD Camera and the colour grading was done in Final Cut using MBL.

HD Wedding Video

Beautiful Life specialise in HD Wedding Video. All our weddings over the last 3 years have been filmed in HD. So if you have a Blu-ray DVD player or a Playstation 3 then you will be able to see your wedding video as it was meant to be seen. HD quality is 6 x that of a standard DVD. All previous weddings filmed in HD are stored and archived safely meaning that you can still order your wedding on Blu-ray even if you were one of the first to be filmed in HD 3 years ago.

High definition (HDTV) is the highest form of digital television. It has a 16:9 aspect ratio which is very similar to that of a cinema screen. Your eyes adjust far better to a rectangular screen compared to a square screen as your eyes always prefer to go left to right rather than up and down to take in information. With a wide screen you can see so much more detail which is great for wedding videos and movies. But HD television is mainly about the quality. 1080i is all about the amount of lines of information in the picture. Basically the more lines the better the picture quality.

The normal standard of television is 720 x 576 compared to 1280 x 1080 – which is a big difference and makes all the more difference on larger tv’s. 1080p is better than 1080i.P stands for progressive and i stands for interlaced. Progressive processes the images twice as fast and so shows a smoother picture than the interlaced version.

We film your wedding using HDV 1080i Sony Video Cameras for excellent quality. We then edit your wedding video in High Definition and then convert it to Standard definition for DVD (if you just have a normal DVD player) play back or transfer it to Blu-ray HD DVD (if you have a blu-ray player or Playstation 3) for viewing.

Let’s face it a Wedding Video is a Luxury item when it comes to a wedding. However, having a professional wedding Video made has so many benefits. Bride and Grooms literally spend thousands of pounds picking professional photographers, professional florists, wedding cars, venues, wedding cakes and food and often it’s the wedding video that pretty much comes last. So should you have a wedding video and is it worth the additional cost? I think absolutely yes!! The reason I think wedding videos and wedding films are worth investing in is because a professional wedding video is the only service that will bring everything together and show you a real overview of your day. It’s not just about capturing smiles like photography often does, but it’s about capturing the very essence of the Bride and Groom and showing their personality and characters through the captured images. A wedding film is about telling someones story  and creating something that shows the detail and emotion of your day and bring’s your memories back to life each time you watch your wedding film.

Here are a few things to think about before booking your videographer:

1) What filming style do you prefer?
Fly-on-the-wall, reality TV, documentary, arty/cinematic are just a few of the most common approaches to wedding films. You have to decide if  you want your videographer to be noticed or to just film from the edge and be discreet?

Our particular approach to wedding videos is a cross between fly-on-the-wall and cinematic. We love to capture natural film and so have developed a discreet style which we believe best captures you at your very best. We love detail and creative story-telling and work hard to make each wedding completely unique and of the highest standard.

2) Cameras and Equipment
It’s always worth asking how many cameras will be used. A single camera is not capable of providing sufficient coverage of your day. What happens if there is only one camera and it’s knocked or in the wrong place and needs to be moved? Two cameras will allow for much better shots, detail and significantly reduce the chance of missing something of importance. After all we only get one chance at a wedding!

We always film ceremonies and speeches with two cameras. We don’t charge any extra for this and I have never understand why some companies do. We find having two cameras actually makes our job easier and ensures we get the maximum amount of footage. Two cameras also enable us to be far more creative and better cover your day. We can capture guest expressions whilst filming the Bride and Groom at the same time.

3) Communication Skills
How will your videographer interact with you, your guests and other professionals on your wedding day? It’s important that your wedding Videographer will help your day run smoothly. Videographers need also to work well with photographers and others and be professional at all times – no matter what!!

We strive to build good relationships with those we work alongside . Comments from guests are always about how discreet we are and comments from photographers are often about how they have found us to be some of the most professional videographers that they have ever worked with.

4) Editing and Finished Versions
How long will the final product be? We provide two DVD’s covering your wedding day which include Highlights, Ceremony, Speeches and First Dance.

• What about film effects? We only use subtle effects as we want your film to remain natural and not become cheesy. Sorry but you won’t find any beating hearts with wings in any of our wedding productions.
• Will there be Highlights? We provide you with 15 mins + of cinematic highlights edited to your choice of music.
• How will my wedding DVD’s be packaged? We love quality and so provide the Bride and Groom with a boxed DVD Lace Folio which retails at £60.00 as part of your package.
• Will the DVD have a title menu for easy navigation? We also chapter the main parts of the day such as Bride prep, guest arrivals, ceremony, wedding breakfast, first dance etc.
• What format will we receive our wedding video in? The main set are DVD’s but we also provide Blu-ray, Hard Drives and HD files for Ipod’s.

5) Is High Definition Important?
We always film in Wide Screen High Definition. In the future people will be watching High Definition and so Single definition (what you currently get through your TV) will seem very low quality in comparison.  Filming in HD will ensure the quality of your film last fa longer.

6) Price
Making a High quality wedding video is expensive. Having the right camera for difficult lighting conditions, high quality microphones to capture the vows etc all demand professional equipment which can put costs in the thousands every year. I regularly film with over £12,000 worth of equipment on the day, edit with the latest Apple Mac Computers and use the best professional editing software to ensure that I can continue to produce some of the UK’s finest Wedding Films. My prices have to ensure that I can replace equipment on a regular basis and continue to increase the quality and standards of my wedding films every year.

I would always treat cheap quotes with suspicion and investigate the type of editing and filming equipment and quality of the final product received.  It’s important to understand that quality wedding Videography demands good equipment, plenty of experience, good filming techniques and creative story telling skills to produce a brilliant wedding video of your day.

Prices for a good quality videographer are no different to what you would pay for a photographer and are usually in the region of £1,000+. I can guarantee that choosing the right videographer and being willing to pay a price that reflects the quality will be a decision you won’t regret.
