I always relish the opportunity to photograph something a bit different (and believe me this was different for me the complete gym-phobic!) so when i got a call from Abi from S.K.J. Martial Arts asking me to do some promotional photography Leicester at their official launch and Taster session I was really looking forward to it. Sticks, Kicks and Jits (SKJ) Martial Arts offers women the unique opportunity to train in three martial arts in one training session; Stick fighting, Kick boxing and Jiu jitsu, it is also the only club of this kind that offers the chance to train with only female instructors, successful in their disciplines. 50 women attended the taster session on saturday and the atmosphere was amazing. There were all kinds of women taking part from World, Eurpoean and National champions in their chosen sports to those who, until a few days ago, had never tried anything like this. The team running the event are amazing, really friendly, great trainers and very talented. SKJ run a womens only training session in leicester on Thursday evenings 6 – 8.30 pm. If you have kids you can bring them too and they can take part in a kids training session which runs at the same time. So if you’re in Leicester and want to try something new, get into shape or simply burn off a few calories after Christmas then give Abi a call on the number below and she’ll be happy to help. You never know you could be a future competitor on the national or international stage!

Greek Christening Photography Nottingham | Baby Sophia

Last Sunday we had the pleasure of filming and photographing another Greek Christening in Nottingham this time at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary “Eleousa”. We have covered a number of Greek Christening’s but recently the baby’s have all been boys so it was lovely to see lots of pink ribbons and cute girly clothes all set out on the table. Greek Christening‘s are beautiful events and always lovely to photograph. The Christening ceremony starts with a blessing read by the priest and then the baby is undressed, anointed with oil and baptised in the font. I love the part when the baby is first dipped in the water and everyone waits to see if they will cry! Sophia was very relaxed and enjoyed the whole thing. Sophias Christening was a little different than usual as there were just 14 people there including us, some relatives had travelled over from Greece for the occasion and it was really nice because everyone could get around the font and easy for me, I usually have to fight through the crowds to get the shot! Sophia’s Christening outfit was beautiful and she looked so cute in her pink hat. Anyway, here are some of her christening photos below:

Here’s a few thoughts about Sophia’s Greek Christening from Charoula (Sophia’s Mum)

1) Please tell us about Sophia’s Greek Christening?
Our little baby was baptised on the 27th of November 2011 in Panagia Eleousa at Nottingham. The ceremony was beautiful and our little baby got blessed and officially named Sophia. in the ceremony there was her grandparents Iosif, Fani, Stratos and Sophia, her auntie Ariadni and her godparents Giannis and Eleana. She had an amazing dress on by “Neonato” and looked like a babrbie doll!

2) What was your favourite part of the ceremony?
My favourite part of the ceremony was when Sophia grabbed her godfather by his glasses!

3) Why did you choose Beautiful Life to Film and Photograph your day?
I found “beautiful Life” while i was searching on google. I looked at some photos and videos of a Greek christening they had covered and I knew that I had to book them. Everything was so beautifully done…..and also the experience in covering Greek ceremonies was a must…

Baby Andreas | Greek Christening Photography

We had the pleasure of filming and photographing another beautiful Greek Baptism at the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Cyril and Methodius in Nottingham. The Christening service started with a blessing from the priest and then the baby is undressed, anointed with oil and baptised. Little Andreas was laughing and splashing in the water, he only cried when they took him out! The baby is then dressed in their Christening outfit which is all laid out beautifully ready for this part of the ceremony. Whilst the baby is being dressed the priest cuts a small piece of the baby’s hair and says another blessing. The ceremonial christening candles are lit and the Godparents walk around the font three times holding the candle whilst the bible is read. The ceremony ends with the babies first communion. The ceremony was followed by a party at Eastwood Hall, Nottingham with lots of Greek dancing. Here are a few of my favourite Christening photos, enjoy!!.

Baby Henry | Catholic Christening Photography

Shaun and I had the pleasure of filming and photographing baby Henry’s Christening in Lincoln. The service was held at Our Lady of Lincoln Catholic Church and after the Christening had finished we headed back to Henry’s home for the reception. Henry was very sweet and really relaxed, he took the whole thing in his stride. The reception was great, balloon modelling and pea-shooters kept everyone entertained and made for some great photographs although I did get caught in the cross-fire a few times! There was the odd game of shoot the photographer and lots of hit and run incidents! (you may find the culprit in the photos bellow!) The tables were decorated with little pairs of wellies and there was a whole family of rubber ducks floating in the bird bath outside. My favourite decoration was the balloon frog that had proper bouncy legs, and hopped in the breeze on the dance floor, very cool!

Sundeep and Nisha | Indian Wedding Reception

Just a quick blog post for you today. Sundeep and Nisha got married in India and then had a reception party back in the UK for all their friends and family. We were booked by Jush Events to film and photograph the evening at the Riverside Venue near Heathrow, London. It was a great evening, a really lovely couple, delicious food, a fab cake covered in chocolate frills and full of profiteroles! and some great dancing. I always love photographing dancing at Indian Weddings. Sundeep and Nisha had a great DJ with a really good setup and lighting, so important if you want good photographs. The venue had an amazing polished dance floor which reflected all the lights and people just had a great time. I was in the zone!

Baby Christoforus | Greek Baptism | Nottingham

I was quite excited when Joanna phoned to book us to do the video and photography for her little boys Greek Baptism. Greek Christenings are beautiful events with lots of elements that give opportunity for creativity, such as the incense burning, the gorgeous light from the candles and all the ornate details in the church. The ceremony itself is fast paced and full of interesting challenges for photographers, really enjoyed this one! The baby is then dressed in their Christening outfit which is all laid out beautifully ready for this part of the ceremony. Whilst the baby is being dressed the priest cuts a small piece of the baby’s hair and says another blessing. The ceremonial christening candles are lit and the Godparents walk around the font three times holding the candle whilst the bible is read. The ceremony ends with the babies first communion. There was a great party afterwards at Eastwood Hall in Nottingham with a chocolate fountain, Fun Faces face painting, Cotton Candy and lots of Greek dancing. I hope you enjoy the images.

Sunita & Ravinder ∣ Indian Engagement Ceremony Part 1

I’ve decided to blog Sunita and Ravinder’s engagement photographs in two parts starting with the ceremony and reception at the City Rooms in Leicester. This is the first of five events building up to their wedding day at the end of June. Sunita and Ravinder live and work in London but came back to Sunita’s home town for the engagement celebration. The sun was shining and the city was bustling with people out shopping and enjoying the weekend and as I headed out I was really looking forward to the day.

The past 12 months for us has been a year of fusion weddings, weddings where two families from different cultures come together and share their wedding customs and traditions. Sometimes cultures are quite diverse and other times fairly closely related, I know it must be a mammoth task to organise these events with so many people to consult and involve but the result is a totally unique and often very interesting and beautiful wedding to film and photograph. Sunita’s family are Hindu and Ravinder’s family are Sikh so their engagement ceremony was a combination of the Sagai, the Hindu ring ceremony and the chunni chadana, the Indian engagement ceremony. The other reason for my excitement was that Sunita shares my love of all things vintage and we had planned a fab portrait shoot in the city after the reception and I always love engagement shoots. Anyway that is going to be my second post tomorrow so I’ll talk more about that then, for now enjoy the pics.

James and Rebecca

James and Rebecca got married on the 30th October, it was a lovely sunny autumn morning as I drove through the countryside to Rebecca’s parents house. I was introduced to rebecca already in her curlers and having her makeup applied. The house was really calm, even time for a cup of tea!

One little bridesmaid and one a bit bigger were discussing hairstyles and getting into their dresses. The girls had opted for straight hair and pretty hair slides but the hairdresser couldn’t resist a few curls and they just looked so pleased when they saw themselves in the mirror, big smiles all around.Rebecca and James got married at St Mary’s Church in Charnwood, which is a pretty little church just outside Loughborough, Leicestershire. They then went on to the Quorn Country Hotel for their reception.I wasn’t allowed to take any photographs in the church during the ceremony, so just two quick shots from the back as Rebecca came in with her dad and a couple of her and James as they came back down the aisle. The sun shone brighter in this October Afternoon that I think it did for any of my summer weddings!Brilliant! A whole spectrum of emotions for James’s mum as the best man did his speech!

The girls had made an Album for Rebecca full of old pictures of her and her friends, great present.Love this picture. Congratulations James and Rebecca.

Ian and Clare’s 25th Silver Wedding Anniversary

Clare and Ian celebrated their 25th Wedding anniversary at The Grey Lady in Newtown Linford, Leicestershire. There was a great performance from singer Ruth Lorenzo who you may remember as a finalist in X Factor a couple of years ago. This was followed by speeches from the Groom and Best man. Congratulations to Clare and Ian and a big thank you to everyone for making us so welcome.

Charlottes Christening

As promised here are some photographs from baby Charlottes Christening at All Saints Church in Newtown Linford, Leicestershire. The service was great, there was lots of children all making lots of happy noise and Charlotte was a star and took it all in her stride. Charlotte’s parents live and were married in China, they had their marriage blessed as part of the Christening service. The reception also had a chinese theme and was beautifully decorated.

Charlotte had seen the rabbit and she was having it!
