A quick share from a lovely baby photography session I did just before Christmas. I met this little lady a year ago for her first baby photography shoot when she was just a week old so it was a real privilege to photograph her again walking and talking! Isla has developed a real personality and I wanted to capture her character and show her favourite games and all the new skills she has mastered in her first year! We started the photo shoot at home where Isla showed me her favourite book and we had a great game of peepo with her little rabbit. I always like to work outside where possible, this can be a bit challenging in winter but we took the risk and headed to Stonehurst Children’s Farm to take a few pictures of Isla looking at the animals etc. We had a wonder around and Isla proudly pushed her new pram which she had for her birthday. She was very sweet pointing at the ducks and chickens saying ‘oo’ and ‘duck’ but didn’t want to get too close!

Greek Christening Photography Nottingham | Baby Sophia

Last Sunday we had the pleasure of filming and photographing another Greek Christening in Nottingham this time at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary “Eleousa”. We have covered a number of Greek Christening’s but recently the baby’s have all been boys so it was lovely to see lots of pink ribbons and cute girly clothes all set out on the table. Greek Christening‘s are beautiful events and always lovely to photograph. The Christening ceremony starts with a blessing read by the priest and then the baby is undressed, anointed with oil and baptised in the font. I love the part when the baby is first dipped in the water and everyone waits to see if they will cry! Sophia was very relaxed and enjoyed the whole thing. Sophias Christening was a little different than usual as there were just 14 people there including us, some relatives had travelled over from Greece for the occasion and it was really nice because everyone could get around the font and easy for me, I usually have to fight through the crowds to get the shot! Sophia’s Christening outfit was beautiful and she looked so cute in her pink hat. Anyway, here are some of her christening photos below:

Here’s a few thoughts about Sophia’s Greek Christening from Charoula (Sophia’s Mum)

1) Please tell us about Sophia’s Greek Christening?
Our little baby was baptised on the 27th of November 2011 in Panagia Eleousa at Nottingham. The ceremony was beautiful and our little baby got blessed and officially named Sophia. in the ceremony there was her grandparents Iosif, Fani, Stratos and Sophia, her auntie Ariadni and her godparents Giannis and Eleana. She had an amazing dress on by “Neonato” and looked like a babrbie doll!

2) What was your favourite part of the ceremony?
My favourite part of the ceremony was when Sophia grabbed her godfather by his glasses!

3) Why did you choose Beautiful Life to Film and Photograph your day?
I found “beautiful Life” while i was searching on google. I looked at some photos and videos of a Greek christening they had covered and I knew that I had to book them. Everything was so beautifully done…..and also the experience in covering Greek ceremonies was a must…

Baby Henry | Catholic Christening Photography

Shaun and I had the pleasure of filming and photographing baby Henry’s Christening in Lincoln. The service was held at Our Lady of Lincoln Catholic Church and after the Christening had finished we headed back to Henry’s home for the reception. Henry was very sweet and really relaxed, he took the whole thing in his stride. The reception was great, balloon modelling and pea-shooters kept everyone entertained and made for some great photographs although I did get caught in the cross-fire a few times! There was the odd game of shoot the photographer and lots of hit and run incidents! (you may find the culprit in the photos bellow!) The tables were decorated with little pairs of wellies and there was a whole family of rubber ducks floating in the bird bath outside. My favourite decoration was the balloon frog that had proper bouncy legs, and hopped in the breeze on the dance floor, very cool!

Newborn Photography | Baby Abigail

I thought I’d share a few pics from my latest newborn photography shoot, one sweet little baby called Abigail. Dan and Suzie brought their first baby Nathan up from Hemel Hempstead,London for some baby photos about two years ago. He was probably one of the most chilled out babies I have ever worked with, so I was curious to see whether it would run in the family. Baby Photography is always unpredictable!! Abigail didn’t want to miss anything and was determined to stay awake but eventually gave in and had a quick nap in a bucket and we got some lovely pics!

Newborn Photography | Baby Lexie

Meet little Lexie, just 7 days old, our latest baby photography session! It is always a privilege to visit a brand new family and capture those precious moments in their first few days together. We got some gorgeous shots of Lexie with her proud Mummy and Daddy and had lots of fun dressing her up in wooly hats and funny pants while she slept soundly through the whole thing! Lexie is definately the smiliest newborn I’ve ever met. Usually you’re lucky if you get one little grin at a Newborn session but this little girl just didn’t stop smiling! Congratulations Emma and Jamie, she is so beautiful and here are a few of Lexie’s newborn photos. Enjoy!!

Thought I’d share a few images from Friday’s portrait session. Children’s photography sessions are so crazy with so many variables that you never know just how it’s going to go! You can do as much planning as you like, you can sort the outfit’s, buy lots of treats (bribes), time your session perfectly around everyone’s naps and meal times but when the camera comes out anything can happen! Before you know it 2 hours have passed and there are props, toys and outfits everywhere, mum’s aching from pulling every funny face in the book in order to get that smile, and you’re all laughing because you know you’ve just cracked one of life’s big challenges and you even enjoyed it!

As you know I love natural light and wherever possible I like to photograph kids outside but the weather on friday morning was horrible so indoors it had to be. I dislike white paper backdrops with a passion as they are just so dull so I made my own, much more fun. These two little ladies were just so cute! Emily with her amazing hair is just six months old and not quite sitting on her own so we had to do all sorts of crazy stuff to get some solo portraits of her, I just love the one of her in the basket. Her big sister is going through her ‘forced smile’ stage (which personally I love, it’s just so funny but most mum’s hate!) so it’s important to help children feel relaxed and catch them with a natural expression.

Baby Photography ❘ Isla

It brought back memories for me yesterday when I went to do my last Newborn Photography session before Christmas. The Christmas tree was up and in the corner was little Isla sleeping soundly, just 9 days old. My eldest daughter was born just before Christmas and I remember climbing up ladders very pregnant decorating the tree, it was definitely a Christmas to remember! Isla gets my Newborn gold star for 2010, she slept the whole session apart from one little cry and a little wee wee on daddy!! Baby Photography ❘ Charis

Had a lovely newborn photography shoot yesterday and here she is, it’s little Charis at just 10 days new! Armed with the White Noise app on my iPad. I headed out into the snow. Babies seem to sense when the photographer is coming and decide that this will be the first day they will stay awake all day!! With the air conditioner roaring away and lots of cuddles she was soon in the land of nod and we got some great shots which I’m sure will be treasured forever.

If you are planning to have a Newborn photography shoot and you want to make sure you capture all those lovely wrinkles and gorgeous sleeps moments then the key is to book your shoot early. In the first few days of life babies sleep nice and deeply and aren’t really disturbed by changing and moving. At around 7-10 days sleep patterns change and baby becomes more aware of what’s going on. Mud pies and Mucking about

Autumn is my favourite time of year and not just because it starts with my birthday! September always brings lots of changes and this year a big change as I waved my baby off to school, very sad but also very exciting as ‘Beautiful Life’ picks up momentum and I have a very busy season ahead. The trees are starting to change colour and we have Bonfire night and Christmas to look forward to, brilliant!!

Our garden looks like a jungle after a full summer of weddings it’s been a bit neglected! I decided that this weekend we were going to sort it out. Gardening quickly turned into mucking about, climbing trees, harassing insects and of course mud pie mixing (no eating this time thankfully!) Kids are just so imaginative and creative, they make games out of anything and good games make great images. I couldn’t resist snapping a few pics, it was just so much fun. The garden is still a jungle but we had a great time!

My youngest daughter is a muck magnet and at her happiest in the garden talking to the bugs!

We did do a bit of gardening and started to clear out all the pots, but work quickly turned into bean smiles and green tomato eyes!

We’ve not long got back from our summer holiday where Charis spent most of her time digging holes and building sand castles. But who needs sand when you have old plant pots and mud? She gave the pot the ‘special tap’ and sure enough a sort of sand castle emerged. She was very pleased with it!

Autumn portrait sessions are becoming really popular as the photo’s make great presents for Christmas. The colours make awesome backdrops, those loads of free fun to be had, picking blackberries and hunting for conkers. For kids there are fab knits (the wooly kind) and loads of hats out there. Deadlines for Christmas will be posted soon.
