I had an amazing portrait shoot at the weekend with Emily and Abbie.  When I arrived I was greeted by two excited girls and arms full of outfits!  We started the session by rummaging through wardrobes and drawers, trying on hats and shoes and finding accessories, the girls had a great time!   We had already chosen 3 locations for the photographs all within a few minutes of their home, so of we went.  The weather forecast was terrible but the rain held off and we captured some amazing images.  We laughed a lot and the girls quickly relaxed and became comfortable in front of the camera.  They can’t wait to see their pictures so here we are.

I love the texture on this wall, it makes a brilliant backdrop for a portrait.  Why have a boring white background when you’re surrounded by stunning colours and amazing lighting everyday.

When I saw all the bright green moss on the steps we changed Emily into the red dress and wow the colours were just stunning.  I love little sets of images that tell a story, perfect for a multi frame.

Abbie is seven and at the stage where her teeth are falling out, I love it!  As a mum I want to remember every stage my kids go through, all their funny faces and mardy moments, it’s these things that make the best images, full of character and personality.

Our 3rd location was at a farm and when I saw Chocolate peeping under the door I couldn’t resist a quick picture!

Two of my favourite images. The girls were just so relaxed and smiley throughout the shoot that sometimes I had to tell them not to smile!!  Taking portrait photographs in a natural environment just works so well for children, they can play and explore giving you a mixture of naturally posed shots and candid moments reflecting their characters perfectly.  The best thing about these shoots is the images you receive are unique, no two sessions are ever the same.

Last week I went to shoot some baby portraits to make some special Christmas presents for the Daddies of cousins William and Rosie.  It was quite funny moving the furniture around  and trying not to leave marks in the carpet that might make Daddy ask questions!!  William loved the camera and was all smiles and Rosie was a very cool customer and made her Mummy work very hard for a smile.  So if you recognise Rosie or William Shhh please don’t spoil the surprise, only 6 weeks to go!

I think this is my favourite image from the shoot, I just caught her day dreaming, looking out of the window.  I am a firm believer that photographing babies is not always about capturing a smile.

Rosie was very much in love with her rabbit ‘florence’.  I love to capture little milestones, a child’s sense of achievement when they learn something new, a reaction to a favourite song, a little interaction with a favourite toy.  Little sets of similar images make great multi-frames.

My girls will never have their pictures taken together but with a couple of bribes I managed some lovely shots at the weekend.

Yes I am obsessed with tea parties!

Went on a great walk around the canals in Derby, took my camera to try and get some shots of the girls and here they are.

There was some great graffiti on the walls so I decided to try and get my youngest to do her moody face for a photo, here’s the result, well worth a whole bag of wine gums don’t you think?!

It was my dads 60th recently so we all went to visit him at the seaside. The kids had a great time on the beach riding on donkeys and playing in the sea.

Who has the best mardy face on the whole of Scarborough beach? Its my Nephew Luke!!

We also visited ‘The Deep’ in Hull and managed to get all the way round without My daughter going for a swim! We spent ages watching the jelly fish they were amazing.

Favourite images of the day

Here’s a sneak peek of Scarlet’s photo-shoot.  She was a star with an amazing smile.  I love the shots of her playing tea parties with her dolls.  She had a talking teapot and daddy had to keep filling it with water so she could make proper tea!!

We did part of Scarlet’s photo-shoot in Grandad’s garden because it was full of lovely flowers.  Scarlet’s mum said she was alright to pick a few out of some of the pots but scarlet really wasn’t sure if she should be doing this!  When she realised it was OK she was picking flowers for everyone, Grandad’s beautiful pots looked a bit worse for wear when we had finished!!
